Theatre Artist and Teacher
The short version: after a BA in Theatre from a small college in New Hampshire, I moved to NYC to start a theatre company and be on Broadway. But things change. After a couple years I realized that city life and "the business" did not suit me or my sensibilities. I moved back to NH and focused heavily on improvisation, and did that professionally for awhile (and bartending to pay the bills), and after doing a few artist residencies and some soul searching, went into teaching. The demand for theatre teachers in New Hampshire is not exactly high, so the next best thing was English, which is what I got my Masters Degree in. I was lucky enough to get hired at a high school that needed an English AND Theatre teacher, and have been there for 15 years. I currently teach American Literature, Film Analysis, and three different Theatre classes (Introduction to Theatre, Acting Workshop, and Advanced Theatre, all of which I wrote the curriculum for). I am also the advisor/director of the after school drama club, where we do 3-4 productions (of various size and style) a year.
